I was taught manners. Their use and implementation is another story. We can go back and forth or we could enjoy a Hebrew National with deli mustard and beer and enjoy hockey.

If you want to watch hockey, why wouldn't you just watch WCHA hockey?

    But seriously ...

Thinking of intense rivalries intensified by proximity reminded me of this horrible story at the intersection of the NHL, murder, and gun control.

I went to college in Montreal in the early 80s. One of the perks back then was that standing room tickets went on sale a little before Canadiens games at the Forum for $5, and I think $7 for the playoffs. So we'd go to a few games each season.

1982 - Canadiens are playing the hated Nordiques in the deciding Game 5 of the playoff series. A fraternity brother of mine and I decide to see if we can snag some standing room tickets, and we luck out. He's not a close friend, but a guy I'm friendly enough with, we'd have a few beers together and chew the fat from time to time, and play tennis occasionally when the weather permitted. Canadiens are down 2-0 in the third period. Canadiens score. Crowd is lit and the building is shaking. Canadiens score again to tie it up and you can't hear yourself talk for the rest of the third period. One of the most electric and memorable things I've ever been to. Overtime - fucking Nordiques score to take the series. Immediate silence and utter despair.

Fast forward several years. Tragically, my old fraternity brother has descended into madness and because he can't buy a gun right away, he buys a crossbow instead and murders his estranged wife in downtown Ottawa. Here are some pieces on it.

    Don't forget the knish!

I'm also an Islanders fan, but enjoy any hockey game I can get to. My BIL has (had?) Capitols season tickets, I liked to go root for the visiting team.... Unless it's the Rangers.

I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread...

On a bright note, Lafrenière finally got his first goal (and point) with an overtime winner. Good for him. He also probably saved Ryan Lindgren a major ass chewing for a stupid penalty which led to the tying goal. (He has taken too many.)

    Anyway...they won.

No beer, bourbon or single malt for you miserable bastids.

I'm a die hard CBJ fan (I know, what am I thinking?) But I gotta say, watching the games w/o a crowd is a little weird.

Can't wait to go see live hockey!!! Even if it's a HS game.
