Many people have expressed this kind of sentiment, but I first remember hearing it said this way by USPSA Production Champion Ben Stoeger. This week we have a test intended to focus on that idea - if you don't hit the target, speed is pretty irrelevant. We'll explore the other side of the coin later.

Start with loaded handgun at the ready, target at 25 yards. No start signal and no time limit. Shoot exactly two shots to the head of the target (entire head counts.) No extra shots allowed. You must have both hits in the head to Pass.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

    Gun and target used
Number of hits out of two possible
    Pass or Fail
    Anything you noticed

At 25 yards I can't really see the head.

Apparently one loses speed (or quickness) faster than accuracy. Ran this ice cold.

1/2 - fail. Pulled one a couple inches left. They’re the pasted shots here. On a B-8, that miss probably would have been a 7.

Since I did the Week 409 drill ("If you aren't fast enough...") and had all that target left, I decided to do this one as well. Surprising myself, I passed.

Gun and target used: Beretta PX4 full-size, IDPA practice
Number of hits out of two possible: 2
    Pass or Fail: Pass
Anything you noticed: I gamed this one and cocked the hammer for the first shot.

I felt sorta guilty for having gamed the first try, so I did it again with DA for the first shot. Pass on that one too.

    P-07 mostly OEM.

    3 x2 shots (DA/SA) at 25yds to head. Clean.

    From AIWB, on the clock:
    3.58s 1 hit, 1 miss.
    3.38s 2 hits. (Favoring high)

Note to self: the OEM sights seem to hit a little low.

Ran back to back with the G19MOS and P30 LEM. Five reps each, re-holstering each time after two rounds. Same ammo. Target focused on the P30.

G19.5MOS = Passed 3/5 reps. Missed two shots from different reps.
    P30 LEM = Passed 5/5.
