    458 Socom and the like

I’m looking at straight walled cartridge AR uppers to meet hunting regulations in a couple nearby states. Mainly 458 socom, 450 bushmaster, and 350 legend. Any experience here?

What’s the BCM/Glock 19 of these? If the answer is a $2600 wilscon combat rifle...that’s a no from me. I’ll figure something else out like a muzzle loader.

What red dots are the go for something like this? Will the 458 recoil destroy a Primary Arms or Holosun micro? I hate buying Chinese shit but this will be a very niche item that will be used only a couple times per year. So I don’t necessarily want to spring for the $800 aimpoint micro, but I also don’t want to lose a deer because my optic isn’t holding zero. I’d prefer something lighter than an aimpoint pro, but would probably compromise on that before spending twice as much for a H2 for this.

I worked a shooting incident a few years ago where a .458 SOCOM AR was used. I test fired the rifle for court purposes, and the recoil was surprisingly mild. I can’t imagine it messing up a decent optic.

Hey, is is PF, we have all sorts of things. Here is my Socom, that Bill Wilson personally spec’d out for me.

If a @TCinVA shotgun class didn’t harm my Primary Arms red dot on a 1301, I doubt a .458 would.

I think a dot on a reciprocating pistol slide lives a much harder life than a dot on a big bore rifle.

I built a 350 Legend upper for a Ohio hunt with friends. Easy build, shoots reliably (not a high count AR), can't comment on performance as only saw does. Seems like viable option as a hunting AR in straight wall locales.

I have a Holosun 407 on my .45-70 and though it doesn't have a high round count its been fine so far.

Several friends and their kids have taken deer with their 350s here in SW Ohio. It seems to perform really well.
