I received my Specialist Covert earlier this week and have worn it with either a G26 or 43x under running shorts a few mornings at the gym and on several trail runs. I've used my Specialist, along with various web belts, before for the same purpose and the Covert is definitely an improvement.

I like the set up of minimalist belt plus regular holster much more than the modified Smart Carry I have and the sticky material is really nice for helping to keep undershirts in place.

We had a surprising amount of end user reports of a Specialist being used in just this manner so we decided to make a dedicated version with specialized features.

I can't speak to the shorts but the Specialist Covert features grip zones on the interior and the exterior to keep everything in place.

Seems like it's at least conceptually similar. About the last 1.5 or so inches of the leg sections of several of the pairs of bike shorts I own have little strips of silicone attached to the inside of the fabric. This gives some grip against the leg, preventing the shorts from riding up.

I've really been digging the Covert belt. It is more stable than I expected due to the grippy material. I can do an entire dry fire session without the holster riding up, which was something I was concerned with not having any "downward" retention of the belt/holster. It also carries bigger guns well. While I originally purchased it primarily for carrying an LCR in gym shorts, it works really well with a G19. Not having to purchase new holster bodies is also a huge plus compared to something like the Phlster Enigma.

The more I use the Covert the more I like it. I wore it underneath my work clothes a few days this week with just a little bit of med gear to see if this will be a viable option over an ankle kit. I forgot it was even there until I bumped into something directly with the TQ pouch I was using and remembered I had it on.

I like being able to just clip a CP and Sabre Red Spray on the belt and pull the top of my running shorts over them when I'm not carrying a gun for whatever reason. Being able to then just add the gun when applicable, without a special shell as @Josh mentioned, is really useful for me as my day might go from 3 am at the gym then 12hrs running around at work to a long trail run with random people. And it works really well as a normal belt that doesn't attract attention if needed.

I've used my PF Specialist and Patagonia/MK/Arc'teryx/etc web belts for the same purpose in the past, but the Covert addresses all the limitations those belts had when used this way.

I've used an early generation Mastermind belt, (a thin coyote colored, milspec unreinforced nylon version that Mack made available shortly after arriving here), for the same purpose and it works, but since it has no "grip", it can be moved around or rotated under gym type attire too easily.

And, like you and Josh, I prefer minimalism and simplicity. I prefer a simple and direct solution to a "problem"...and as good as the PHLster solution may be for some, I am not the target audience for such (less simple) solutions.
