I should do some more specific weight comparisons on those two setups.
    Yep,

Weight alone does not tell the whole story.

Not long after 9-11 I was doing E.P. for my Governor and as it was a non uniformed assignment, I had switched from my issued primary duty Glock 21 .45 to a Kimber pre series 1911 (I had qual'ed myself with the 1911 as my "backup" . The 1911 simply worked better under a suit coat, even though it was heavier and carried fewer rounds.

This being P-F, I figured that this would be a good thread for pure information, so guys (and gals) can refer to it if they choose to.

    Great thread Lost River!

I think it would be useful to list the number of rounds/pound or oz/rd for different loads.

You've convinced me that I need an IWB holster for my Blackhawk.

In other words, how many X ounces (penalty) do you pay to carry Y rounds (benefit)? Looking at the ratio, the optimum turned out to be the Glock 19:

When I get some time, I need to measure pistol thickness. Even though the 1911 weighs much more than a G17.3 with the grip frame chopped to G26.3 length, the 1911 is much more comfortable all day. That is with both pistols carried in Sparks VM-2 holsters on the same general spot on the belt. The 1911 grip frame is thinner, making it more comfortable. I suffer less fatigue from all day carry with the 1911 than with either the chopped G17.3 or a P30 in a VM-2.

I've noticed the same thing. I was just on an off-duty security gig yesterday. My P250c in a Safariland ALS holster "pulls" on my hip more than the steel .45 Commander in a Galco Speedmaster with the belt loop installed.

I think that weight distribution is a factor as well, in addition to total weight, thickness, etc. Unfortunately, Rich, just plugging in numbers doesn't tell the whole tale.
