I'm still eating voraciously, but I also started lifting weights 3 days a week so thankfully almost all of my weight gain has been muscle & water. I started to eat a bit more cleanly again towards the end of the week so hopefully that'll help keep the calories a bit more reasonable going forward. That also means cutting out diet soda, a bad habit I resumed when recovering from pneumonia (they're zero calories, but drinking them seems like it makes me more likely to overeat than if I stick with water & unsweet tea).

Cycling & running strength still feel decent, but I'm at the point in the training cycle where fatigue is starting to accumulate. Next week is a de-load week so I'm hopeful that afterwards my VO2 max will climb back up to its pre-pneumonia high.

I've been hesitant to post. I lurk around and watch @0ddl0t 's progress, which has been a bit inspiring. I have no desire to exercise as a daily routine at this point, or compete in anything. I basically lost 60# in 2019, but fell short of my goal by 20#. I put half that back on in 2020 due to a DFAF attitude because of stress managing my business, inability to travel, and various other things.. #fuckcovid . Funny enough, I gained all that weight back by just eating larger quantities of the things I was eating to lose weight. I still avoid processed sugars like the plague, but I'm living proof that you can gain weight by eating too much stuff that's good for you. That and I started eating breakfast again, which I honestly don't need to do. Even two eggs and two strips of bacon add up in the long run.

No more excuses. I started a pretty heavy schedule of construction at a property we're developing for our second business. We're doing a whole house remodel and building a garage. When you're 60 to 70 lbs overweight, it's pretty obvious that it's a strenuous endeavor. Mentally I refuse to let my daughter's 20 y.o. boyfriend outwork me, who I hired to help, so I've been pushing myself pretty hard. That started three weeks ago, and at the same time I cut my calorie intake to less than 2000 per day. It's working out pretty good and I actually feel great. I'm dropping 3# a week right now, and know the pace will slow to 2# a week pretty soon. That's the rate I want to be at.

In 2019 I lost a bunch of weight by mostly cutting carbs to below 40 per day. I think one of the things that really failed for me was the lack of bread/pasta and having to go to huge lengths to re-invent replacements. It sucked, frankly. This time around I'm really not limiting myself to avoiding anything other than processed sugars and non-homemade food. I've started to bake my own breads. I find that allowing myself to have a couple 400 cal sandwiches with vegies, cheese and meat at lunch, really helps me stem the carb cravings that plagued me in the past.

We'll see if I check in again. Nice job @0ddl0t , it's fun to look at the data.

I finally got back into a modest calorie deficit. So far it hasn't yet been reflected on the scale, but that's probably because I started taking creatine (which tends to add water weight). I don't expect it to make any difference with endurance, but there is a substantial body of work to suggest it can help with weight lifting. Weight lifting had mostly stalled, somewhat inexplicably given it has only been a couple weeks, but cycling, running, & swimming performances are all near their prior highs.

    I can pee outside.
Everyone is doing well here,so well.!
Two weeks ago was another diabetic check-up from the neck-up.
All my blood tests came back well within normal ranges except for my cholesterol, which is also headed in the right direction and off by perhaps 30 points.[or however they score it, but not by much]
Of course, they want me to go on another med,but told them no, and will continue to eat right and excercise. My A1C was at 5.6.
    Weight at 190 even.

Congrats to all who are trying so hard!

Back under 200 lbs. My weight lifting strength continues to improve, as well as peak cycling wattage (I finally hit >1,000 watts when sprinting). My garmin VO2 is now 47 - just shy of the prior peak of 48. I also ran my fastest adult mile @ 7:36.

The ironman is about 1 month out, but I'm not super confident in my running. My longest run to date has only been a 1/2 marathon and that was completed in a glacial 3 hours on very achy legs. With a half-way decent bike ride I should still be able to finish within the ironman cutoff time at that running pace, but I was originally eyeing to do the marathon in 4 hours (obviously that's not going to happen). I have a 3 hour run scheduled for tomorrow, hopefully I go at least 16 miles...

You're an inspiration and a half. Keep going strong.

Regardless, go for it. Who care if you finish? If you put everything you have into it, you will be glad you tried no matter what the outcome is.

Well I came up short @ 14.5 miles (still a PR). This time my legs felt pretty good - probably because I popped an ibuprofen beforehand and another at the 2 hour mark. Not something I want to get into the habit of, but I never take pain meds so I think I'll be alright doing it twice a month for the super long runs.

I felt so good I could easily have pushed the pace to hit 16+ miles, but the Garmin training plan wanted me to keep my heart rate in zone 2 (for me that's below 139).

I subscribed to this thread, but really haven't been following it, but I have been making some progress the last month and a half. Prior to Covid I was just plump for a guy my age (62), and in a LOT better shape than most of my peers (why does Cracker Barrel always sit a monstrosity of a person at the table next to you right after you ordered Momma's Pancake Breakfast?!?!?) but heavier than I should be.

During Covid some people learned to speak a second language, I wasn't one of those people.
Maybe when there are shortages of groceries buying groceries makes you feel like you should be rewarded for "doing" something and eat the groceries, then rinse & repeat. I mean, nobody likes to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli...

So I joined my wife in a diet (she is doing well also). Had been hovering a little over 200, then crept up to more consistently ~203 (am 5'-9"), then when we ate all of the stuff in the fridge that were were going to quit eating I peaked at 206 the morning the diet started. So this morning I was 190.5, feeling a lot better.

Have been drinking protein shake slushies most mornings, just bought a bigger bullet blender.
Have still been eating the occasional sandwich, but not had a piece of toast or a piece of bread independent of a sandwich.
Not sure I have eaten a potato in any form.

Not been to the gym, but rejoined. We had some trees taken down and I have a shitload of wood to split and stack before the weather gets nasty, then the gym.
Last June I started dabbling in three gun and a friend recorded video of me and when I showed it to my wife her comment was "You run like Fred Flintstone!", I need to get her some newer video...

Also in this mix was an encouraging echocardiogram (had some issues in 2011) a few weeks ago, so that helps urge me forward.

My Wing Claw 2.5 should get here in a few more weeks, gonna give that a try.

There are some stretches that are pure gold for the legs:

For the knees: #1 and #2 from there:
    pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?32526-Reducing-weight-of-duty-gear-and-back-injurues&p=775621&viewfull=1#post775621

    For the hip joints (1:00 - 2:10):
youtube.com/watch?v=_ITSokk8le4&t=60s (the subtitles in English are quite good)

    For the achilles tendons (9:42 - 12:58):
    youtu.be/4jsGX2rZL4w&t=582 (subtitles not so good)

I do these stretches regularly - about 2 or 3 times per week. And I do it on the day after a longer run. Highly recommended! The videos are in German but quite self-explanatory. You can also switch on English subtitles. There are some fine points to note and to do in order to make the stretches work great. Roland Liebscher-Bracht, the physiotherapist in the videos, explains it very well. Germany is not so big but note how many views e.g. the video behind the second link has. I would say, he's famous and highly regarded in my country.
