    Week 404: Five-Yard Roundup

    Week 404: Five-Yard Roundup

Results may be posted until February 1st, 2021.

    Designed by: Justin Dyal
    Range: 5 yards
Target: B8 repair center, download here: https://pistol-forum.com/attachment....1&d=1322428748
    Start Position: Varies, see below
    Rounds Fired: 10

Let's try FAST Challenge Coinholder #05 Justin Dyal's drill!

From the original article (bold added by me, and sorry, it looks like the original article isn’t posted):

There are four strings of fire, each with a time limit of 2.5 seconds. (Remember the three-second statistic? We want to be effective within that time.) Scoring is by the rings on the target for the ten shots, equaling a possible 100 points. Hits off of the ten-inch repair center are counted as misses and minus ten each. Late hits are noted and five points are deducted per late shot. A “scratch eight” in 2.49 seconds is preferable to a “ten” over the limit, which nets only five points.
String 1: Draw and fire 1 shot freestyle

String 2: From freestyle ready, fire 4 shots freestyle

String 3: From strong hand only ready, fire 3 shots strong hand only

String 4: From support hand only ready, fire 2 shots support hand only

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Equipment used (pistol, holster, optional concealment garment if one was used)
    Number of overtime shots
Total score out of possible 100
    Anything you noticed

Like most B-8 centered drills, there are levels of achievement. First, all ten hits within time on the ten-inch paper: respectable, useful, and on the right path.

Next, all within the eight-inch “8” ring with most in the black: solid, and demonstrating all the right stuff. This typically works out to a 90 or above score and is about what I’d look for in a SWAT or instructor-level shooter.

Next is all in the black within time. That is usually a 95 or above and is back-slap worthy on any firing line.

Finally, this drill is 100% max-able. The very best can do it regularly, almost on demand, but it requires that everything is done right. Often the last hit with either of the single-hand strings will frustrate that perfect run.

90 I think (one late hit).

M&P40 2.0C/TLR from a JMCK OWB from under my winter coat and vest. If not for the late hit it would have been my best ever run on this one.

Not my best run. I shot a 99 on this one some months ago, with the PF9C, but have conveniently erased the pic! Ha! Average 90ish on it most of the time.

I really like this drill. It's one of my staples. Been a while, and I think I was in too much of a hurry those last two strings.

And yes, I made templates to make my own B8s, I'm cheap.

They're 11 cents apiece, fer cryin' out loud. And you can use masking tape to patch them.

Kind of 100pts with my competition gun (TSO in 40SW), the 5 o’clock hit is just every so barely touching the 10 ring with an overlay. But honestly, it’s more of a 9. Weak hand was the culprit.

Repeated it today. 99 pts with my carry gun.

One of my favorites. Shot it with my PX4CC from a JM Wing Claw 2.5 under a quarter-zip sweatshirt.

First attempt (cold): 84. (Disregard the 79 on the pic - I thought a late hit was -10.)

What killed me on this one was a late hit on the freestyle string, as well as pulling the first shot of that string into the 8-ring and not correcting myself before sending the rest.

I continued by shooting the rest of the Rangemaster Advanced Bullseye course:

I think Tom scores late hits as -10, so that would be a 132. I redeemed myself on the 10-yard string but blew it with 4 misses at 25.

Knowing I could do better, I shot just the Roundup again for 90 points - would have been 95 but for the last freestyle shot .08 overtime.

G48 from AIWB concealed. Made all the times. Just barely a 99. One round just a hair outside the 10 ring. Good drill that I've done before several times.

Decided to run this with my pocket gun, a slick 642 I’ve carried for years. I can shoot this drill better than this, but today, cold, with this little gun, this is what I got.

642-2 - completely cold, no dry fire or .22 or anything first.
    1-1.45, 10
    2-3.27 final round, splits: 1.11, 1.87, 2.6, 3.27. 2x8, 1x7, 1x6. This run results in -10 from total for 2xlate shots.
    3-2.56 final round. Splits: .98, 1.79, 2.56. 2x9, 1x7
    4-2.52. Splits: 1.5, 2.52. 2x9
    81-10=71 total
