Thread: American Humor

Wife and I just watched Robin Williams' 1978 HBO special, Off the Wall:

    *NSFW* https://youtu.be/B92gbxUySZE <--- Clip from.

She'd never seen any of his stand-up and decided it was time on a DVD set which has been unduly neglected. I suggested we start early as his later stuff was very different and wouldn't paint the full picture. From his absolutely gonzo performance to the visible coming down from the dopamine high as he walks back to the green room with a camera tail really made his suicide click for her. "Those manic phases look like they'd been decades of hell."

R.I.P. to one we'll never replace.

I'd like to submit The Princess Bride and Strange Brew. I don't care if those two are Canadians, their stuff is American funny!

I meant Moranis and Thomas are Canadian, not both movies. Apologies.

That was funny. I just sent it off to my two friends who own big 'merican trucks (one of whom also owns a BMW).

The bit about how the Jetta ran down its battery was especially funny to me because my old 4Runner will drain a battery after sitting for a few weeks if I don't disconnect it. Now I know why!

    Jeanne Robertson was very funny.

And I don't believe that anyone has mentioned Barney Miller.

Holy crap, I was just watching one of her videos last night on Youtube. I've been a fan for years. She's from NC, like my family, so it's like listening to one of my great aunts talking.

As for Barney Miller, I didn't appreciate that show enough when my dad would watch it, but looking back, it's pretty funny and explains how Shepherd Book learned about criminals and criminal activity.
