    American Humor

Thinking of some British friends tonight. Monty Python and Benny Hill introduced me to British humor. If you had to introduce a Brit to American humor, what would you show them? For me it's
    1. Blazing Saddles--could probably end it all right here
    2. Saturday Night Live before Belushi died
    3. Alice's Restaurant--the song, not the movie
    4. Standup by Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, or Ron White
    5. The Hangover movies
    6. Animal House
    7. Cheech & Chong
    8. The Onion
    9. Willie & Joe

    What have I left out?

Unless you mean North American, you can cross Robin Williams off your list since he's Canadian. For that matter most of SNL of that era....

ETA: I'll be damned, I just double checked myself and Robin is from Chicago. Not sure why I thought he was Canadian, my bad. But much of the SNL case has definitely been Canadian.

hate to be the "actchually" guy...

Williams was born in Chicago, and went through school mostly in Marin County, California. He was very much a product of the SF Bay Area. Several lifelong friends attended Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, CA. Lots of teachers there had Robin Williams stories.

Yeah my edit must have been while you were typing that. I bet those teacher stories are amusing as hell though

Mel Brooks has been mentioned; one must also include
    Mark Twain.

Might as well throw "Young Frankenstein" in there as well.

"Running Scared" and "Trading Places" as well if they haven't been mentioned.

So many great comedians, including Lenny Bruce.

The works of the late Jean Shepherd, especially his nightly radio show...and of course "A Christmas Story".
