NFL honors criminal Dreasjon Reed as a “victim of systemic racism”

Apparently “systemic racism” means “getting shot by a black policeman because you were driving by homes and randomly shooting at them with a gun you stole and then you decided to shoot at a cop”.

On May 6, 2020 at approximately 6:00 p.m. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Deputy Chief Kendale Adams was traveling northbound on Interstate 65 at West 30th Street when he observed a vehicle, described as a grey Toyota Corolla with four doors, driving recklessly. The vehicle had almost struck other vehicles while it exited the interstate. Deputy Chief Adams was in an unmarked police vehicle and Chief Randal Taylor was in a separate vehicle directly behind Deputy Chief Adams. Both Chief Taylor and Deputy Chief Adams were in uniform.

Deputy Chief Adams asked for other officers’ assistance as he began a pursuit on the vehicle. Chief Taylor continued to assist Deputy Chief Adams. The vehicle continued driving at a high rate of speed and disobeying all traffic signals.

As marked cars arrived in the pursuit, Chief Taylor and Major Adams removed themselves from the pursuit as is standard procedure. At 6:10 p.m. the pursuit was terminated by the Sergeant monitoring the pursuit. Officers immediately backed away from the vehicle and disengaged their emergency equipment.

Just before 6:16 p.m. a Northwest district officer observed the grey Toyota Corolla pull into the rear of a business in the 6200 block of Michigan Road. The driver then jumped out of the vehicle disregarding the officers verbal commands to stop. A short foot pursuit occurred east bound from the location. Initial information indicates the officer deployed his taser. It appears the taser was ineffective, and an exchange of gunfire between the driver and the officer followed. The driver was struck by the gunfire.

The officer was not hurt in this exchange; however, the driver, later identified as Dreasjon Reed, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Officers located a firearm near Mr. Reed at the scene, which was collected as evidence. The distinctive appearance of the firearm matched one Mr. Reed had been seen posing with on social media.

Ballistic evidence recovered from the scene initially indicate that shots were fired from both the officer’s weapon and Mr. Reed’s weapon. Details will be confirmed as the evidence is tested by the Marion County Forensic Services Agency.

The IMPD Critical Incident Response Team is handling the criminal investigation. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) was also on the scene.

An Internal Affairs investigation is also ongoing.

The officer is currently off work on administrative leave as is standard procedure in these types of incidents.

INDIANAPOLIS — A man shot and killed by an IMPD officer will not be remembered by an Indianapolis Colts player after all.
A list posted by the National Football League had said that Colts linebacker Matthew Adams would have a sticker with Reed's name on his helmet. The NFL announced in September it would allow players to display the names of victims of police violence and systemic racism on their rear helmet bumpers this season.

13News has learned that instead of wearing Reed's name, Adams wore the message "Stop Hate" on a helmet decal earlier in the season. According to the Colts, there are no current plans to honor Reed’s name on a helmet in an upcoming game.

    Indianapolis FOP addressed this here:

    http://fop86.org/

After receiving inquiries from our membership and their families, we took steps on behalf of our 3,000 active and retired members to determine what the facts were related to the NFL position and that of the Indianapolis Colts.

Overnight and this morning, we were able to make contact with key leadership within the Colts organization. It was apparent the organization was not aware of the NFL posting. Through their review and our independent analysis, it appears many of the local media outlets simply reprinted previous articles they had published on the topic from August and September of this year. Incidentally, some of the outlets did not include the original publication dates yet included language that the specific player was contemplating wearing the name in “Week 1 or Week 2” of the season (back in August/September) which raised our concerns about the factual basis of these latest articles.

Through our review, we confirmed via the Colts organization they believe the latest news reports appear to be old news stories, the player neither displayed the name back then, nor has he since and no Colt is expected to do so this season.

We did confirm the NFL did make this post yesterday (12/16/2020) without the Colts’ knowledge or support.

Additionally, the Colts are now working diligently to determine if the NFL plans to remove the name/post. We remain in contact with the team and await any action if any from the League.

The Colts are also taking steps to contact local media outlets to make sure they are clear on these details and our membership will hopefully see some updates via the original stories.

Incidentally, the Colts do plan to honor a long-time employee of the organization who passed on from a battle with a long-term illness and all Colts players will display his name on their helmets this week.

Make no mistake, we will continue to monitor this matter and continue to examine any options available to our Lodge if we should need to follow up with the NFL.

I'd probably care more if I cared about the NFL or athletes or professional sports in general. None of it is as interesting as women's pole vaulting...

This systemic racism is really over the top. How dare law enforcement officials intervene?
