    Slingin' My 1187

    After spending way too much time trying to figure out how to carry my "straight stock" 1187 patrol-style like I do with my carbine, I finally gave up. Though I was somewhat successful, the SG never carried like the AR, often ending up upside down or laying sideways in front of me - and it always felt awkward. I came to the conclusion that between the balance of my SG and the limited attachment points compared to the AR, it just wasn't going to work the way I wanted it too.

    What I really wanted to do is to keep the sling as simple and compact as possible, it's primary purpose is to carry and be able to go hands-free when needed. When I came across the following video, I decided this was the best way for me to sling my 1187;

    Using a Blue Force Gear sling I had handy, I fit it to my 1187. On the front, instead of using extra hardware, I simply attached the sling directly to the magazine tube. It remains captured on the tube by the light mount, and has no metal hardware to clank around or bugger-up the finish. The rear is attached to a standard stud in the stock with a QD swivel.

    With the sling set to its shortest length, I adjusted the rear so the the sling is nice and short as shown in the photo below - and works perfectly with the hasty sling method. With the sling lengthened, the length is ideal for using the methods demonstrated in the above video.

    Here's what the setup looks like;

    A close-up of the sling attached directly to the mag tube;

    Not the ultimate in tactical coolness, but I very much like this sling setup and technique for my 1187 use.

    Nice set up.
    I've been looking for a 4 round card.
    I can read the tag in your photo. Who is the manufacturer? Attached with simple , high strength hook and loop?
    Thanks

    Thanks!

    This one is a Brown Coat Tactical.

    Yes, hook & loop - everything stays put nicely.

    Have you seen the Giles sling from the Wilderness. I think it carries patrol style. This is for an 870, but could work.

    I have learned this as ‘African Carry,’ since 1997, and it’s how I carry long guns. Muzzle awareness is the challenge; if you’re lax, the muzzle will cover your foot.

    I learned it when I saw The Green Berets.

    That's not African carry. Maybe Irish carry.

    What kind of light mount is that?

    Beware of precipitation, because then you'll be...

    slinging in the rain.
