I know people hate on the guy because he is over the top and ridiculous and all that, but I've only ever seen a really passionate knife guy. Who knows what the real motivations behind this sale were, I doubt it was greed. I certainly hope that the core of the company lives on. By that I mean that underneath the volume of strange tools/gadgets they put out, they have always offered a number of absolutely excellent knives like the Recon 1, American Lawman, Ultimate Hunter, ...

The time to sell out is when people are buying.

    And you are aging.

Good on Lynn for making a fortune by building a business, and then liquidating it. That’s more American than half the stuff being discussed on P-F. I personally think the guy is a dork, but he turned a life-long kid’s fascination with knives, swords, and spears into a mini empire, and both the 12-year old me and the 52-year old me respect the hell out of that.

Who is GSM? GJM’s rich older brother?

They’ve already changed their warranty and it’s rumored all the CS employees were let go. I found a lengthy thread on the sale here.

Knife Center is running a sale on CS products

Just answered the question of "what do I do with this money Spyderco doesn't want me to spend?"

man, you and I are tuned into the same station.

After seeing who owns GSM, and doing a bit of reading, I’m thinking vulture capitalism. CS’s day in the sun was waning a bit, based on their website devolution and product availability, and I’m surmising that Lynn cashed out while he could. Good for him.

What are 15yo boys who need a knife for "self defense" going to do now that they won't be able to buy a ridiculous folder from CS?

Oh, man...I do NOT need another knife...

...or (ETA: the only Cold Steel product I have) another shovel:

Sheaths and replacement handles are about $8 each.

Eh: After further review, looks like pretty much a wash with A_zon pricing once you figure in shipping. Those little E-tool shovels are legit, though.

I was going to by the bigger shovel until they wanted $20 for shipping.
