    Speaking of completely badass women...

    Iris Critchell is approaching 100 very soon.

    @Stephanie B

    My recollection is that she flew P-51s and P-38s among the others. The women did not fly in combat, but ferried the planes from NA through Greenland and on to England. A very serious job in any case.

    My late mother in law was a WASP, signed up after her husband was shot down and felt like she needed to take up the mantle. Lived until 99, incredible woman. Her uniform and other memorabilia is at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base where the WASP have their own memorial.

    I found out, decades later, that the housewife next door in one town that my family lived was a WASP. She flew multi-engined bombers.

    For some reason, I thought this would be a thread about Olympias.

    One of my customers and neighbors, Pam Flowers, mushed dogs 2500 miles across the Arctic Ocean coast line of Alaska and Canada solo. She also traveled to the magnetic North Pole solo. She's a complete bad ass.. all 5'0" of her.

    One of the girls that went through our Build A Plane program went on to become a DC-6 captain by the age of 24. There have been plenty of woman that probably flew as complicated planes in prior history or in the military, but to do it in this day and age, privately, with all the bureaucracy involved is pretty rare.
