Looks like I paid $210 for the Ridgid F45 back in 2014, coulda swore I paid more. $250 online today.

Not sure how I landed on those vises but it has served me well. After this thread I am going to go back and try and line up the jaws a little better.

PS - I hate to pass bad info, and in my mind I remember seeing a made in xxx that was not where I expected it to be made. If I mess with it today i will look and see if it's stamped anywhere.

FWIW, if you’re doing woodworking, a different type of vice than what’s been posted so far can really change your workflow for the better. I kept struggling for years with the type that most of us think of when we think “vice” three or four bolts mounting it to the top of the bench, swivel base, metal jaws wherein one has a bar that slides into the other...)

If you’re doing woodworking, get yourself one of these or something similar and change your life

I have, I believe, this one

Yup. Those will also hold a receiver block for an AR lower just fine.

    "Both" can be nice.

have a project coming up wherein I need to glue up 2x cedar material for a bar top. Seemed like that would require a track saw. Agonized over whether I'd prefer cordless with a new battery system (Milwaukee doesn't make a cordless track saw) or the corded nightmare.

not wanting more batteries won out over not wanting cords.

Which means that Milwaukee will release a cordless track saw within 6 months.

To those of you on the Milwaukee system, you're welcome.

Dissassemble, clean and lube it when you get it.

Some of this might help with that rust.

I'd go with some water proof (aluminum base) grease on the swivel flange. And this helps keep the rust off surfaces. https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.c...yna-glide-plus

Out for delivery! I'm looking at soaking it in white vinegar for a little bit and then cleaning it up, maybe hitting it with textured silver paint.

This thread has me thinking my current vise is wholly inadequate. Thank you PF for finding another creative way to spend my money!

When I was looking at new vises, I was very close to buying the Wilton WS5 if that helps.

Thanks. I'll have to do some research. Probably, I'll cruise ebay every so often and hope for a good deal like you found there. I'm already cruising for British military sabres. Why not a vise?
