Why should they be ready to shut down trade with countries that play by the rules?

We benefit from free, fair trade, but not from a free-for-all.

Rules? There are no rules. Trade is by agreement. That's why they call them trade agreements. I want to sell you something. I'll deliver it to you for x. You say OK, I'll buy it for x. Gov't tells you the price is x plus because you have to pay the tariff. Does that hurt me or you? It doesn't hurt me because I sold it at the price I wanted. You paid the tariff.

The average salary in China is about 12K. Average in US is about 50K. Can I buy that same item made in the US for less. Nope. Can I buy the same item made in the US for less, even after paying the tariff? Nope.

So even with tariffs the US manufacturer isn't going to compete in that market. That's what we're seeing. The only way to beat China is to stop trading with China.

The whole thing is very strange. And I say that as someone who is not a Biden supporter.

I believe that I read that the repairman with whom the computer was dropped off has vision problems--so he can't visually attest that the person who dropped it off was Hunter Biden. The repairman is able to work on computers using a special magnifying glass. Oh, and he is a Trump supporter.

    Parts from: https://nypost.com/2020/10/14/email-...iz-man-to-dad/

"The computer was dropped off at a repair shop in Biden’s home state of Delaware in April 2019, according to the store’s owner.

The customer who brought in the water-damaged MacBook Pro for repair never paid for the service or retrieved it or a hard drive on which its contents were stored, according to the shop owner, who said he tried repeatedly to contact the client."

After being unable to contact the person who dropped it off, the shop owner supposed then looked at the hard drive to try to find other information to enable him to contact the owner. It was then that he discovered the indictment fodder on Hunter Biden, and then contacted the FBI. The FBI seized the computer in December of 2019, as evidenced by a subpoena.

"The shop owner couldn’t positively identify the customer as Hunter Biden, but said the laptop bore a sticker from the Beau Biden Foundation, named after Hunter’s late brother and former Delaware attorney general.

But before turning the gear over to the FBI, the shop owner says that he made a copy of the hard drive and later gave it to former Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello."

I could concoct all types of conspiracy theories about this, but it is late and I am tired.

I am trying to imagine pitching an AUSA with anything in a case that came to me that way: "So what had happened was..." After the dust settled, I think I would be lucky if my chain of command did not require me to wear a helmet and have an adult minder when out in public.

Really though, regardless of your political feelings, this story is so jacked up that the interesting thing is not the story, but watching folks reaction to the story.

What is absolutely known at this point is that someone who was kicked out of the military for drug use and could not hold a job before his father became Vice President suddenly became the subject of treasury reports from banks for very large payments from questionable foreign individuals. The emails mostly confirm what we already knew.

Any legal information I may post is general information, and is not legal advice. Such information may or may not apply to your specific situation. I am not your attorney unless an attorney-client relationship is separately and privately established.

This was my conclusion as well. He didn't become a board member of a sketchy Ukrainian Energy Company and amass so much money at such a convenient time without large scale corruption. This information fits the bill.

    PERSONAL OPINIONS FOLLOW.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Nobody cares. The lines are already drawn. The theme that marginal sons profit for the largess of their fathers is well developed on both sides of the equation.

The dems do not care that their flag holder had to quit a presidential race because of plagiarism accusations and accusations that he is clearly not as sharp as he once was.

The reps certainly do not care that their flag holder was accused of screwing and paying off a porn star while his third wife was at home pregnant with his fifth child after the previous one was born out of wedlock.

The dems do not care that their flag holder will not fully and completely answer the court packing question using the definition for court packing that was in common use prior to Oct 1, 2020.

The reps do not care that their flag holder will not disclose his tax returns despite multiple statements that he would do so and could do so at least as to the years that are not under audit.(All presidential tax returns are audited btw. It is standard IRS procedure.)

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/can-tru...id-11601568877

Neither party cares that both their respective flag holders seemingly went to great lengths to avoid military service during the Vietnam era. (Biden-asthma v. Trump-bone spurs)

    etc. etc. etc.

    IMHO-
the last dem president that had more than a passing relationship with the truth, personal honor, valor and unselfish service was Jimmy Carter, a Naval Academy Grad who served on Nuclear Submarines as they were coming of age in the 50's and served during the Korean War Era.

the last rep that had more than a passing relationship with truth, personal honor, valor and unselfish service was George H.W. Bush, who was flying combat missions and landing dive bombers of off aircraft carriers in the middle of the Pacific Ocean at the age of 19 and change after enlisting the day he graduated from arguably the best private boarding high school in the country.

Perhaps, not coincidentally, they were both one term presidents.

    YMMV Greatly.

Blessings to all and your families in this time.

    Good post.

I liked Bush the elder as well...though from a professional (LE) point of view I still have some questions regarding matters which transpired under his watch while he was commander in chief.

The current occupant also threatened to sue the schools he attended if they released any information about his grades or academic record.

Yep...doesn't matter which side of the aisle they spring up from, few have more than a passing acquaintance with the truth.

And you're right, the lines are drawn and most all of us know how we're going to vote, clothespin required or not.
There's nothing civil about this war.

    He screwed himself with

    1. Read my lips: No new taxes.
    2. "Luxury Tax"

I've never had this thought before, but I wonder if not doing that one move could have prevented the whole Clinton era.
