A picture is worth a thousand words but a video is worth a thousand pictures. And a second video from a different angle that starts before the incident in question is worth considerably more.

I know that doesn’t fit in with the conspiracy narrative this was all a planned hit.

There's a still photo of the decedent slapping the shooter hard enough to knock off his hat and glasses before the shooter draws, and it looks like the whole thing was captured frame-by-frame by Getty.
Obviously it's not the legal standard, but the old gun-forum statement of "don't assault people if you don't want to get shot" applies to political protests, too.
Not commendable but may be justifiable.
With hind sight, scary to think this guy was confronting Trump button wearing supporters and calling them racist and gloating about the lack of response to same. He’ll get a chance to learn all about racism when he’s introduced to the reality of prison culture.
That may not be the case if the prosecution is similar to the DA in Portland and several others elsewhere.
