Thread: Eddie Van Halen-RIP

  1. #21
I have an all VanHalen song list on my phone. I was on the road today for ten hours and it was non-stop VanHalen. They were just about the only big 80's rock band I didn't see in concert, but they were a HUGE part of my teenage years.

A fun "The Way I Heard" from Mike Rowe on the VanHalen brothers. http://thewayiheardit.rsvmedia.com/e...aordinary-swap

    RIP Eddie.

Van Halen's success had by and large peaked by the time I was in my mid-teens but I loved listening to them. Hope he gets to jam with the greats in the world after.

Eddie Van Halen was an intellectual and a musician. Some highlights. Eruption:

This was before immediate digital correction. He could do this live.

I saw them 6 times, 2 times in 1982 for the Diver Down tour, 2 times in 1984 for the 1984 tour, 1 time in 1986 for the 5150 tour and 1 time in 1988 for the OU812 tour.

EVH was BADD ASS one of the greatest ever.

Eddie is dead and Ozzy is still kicking, just saying, does it really matter how we live?

My quick search didn't find it but there are some longer interviews with him on YouTube. He tells some cool stories including how they had to create a new way to write music to capture what he did.

I got to see VH in Albuquerque (Tingley Coliseum) during the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour. Only got to see them that once, but the music - and even the videos - were a huge part of my youth.
Heck, I was just rocking out to "Top of the World" Sunday evening driving home from picking up dinner.

    Sad news.

I was never a huge Van Halen fan - I liked a few of their songs in passing, but that was about it. But I'm a guitarist, and there's no doubt that EVH was a huge influence in the music world, whether it be technique, guitars, amps, effects, etc. He was a pioneer, and one of the Greats.

My dad used to (and still does) listen to pretty much nothing but classic country. Hot for Teacher was the first time I discovered that blues chords could rock.
