    Rejuvenating Pachmayr grips

Been a round gun shooter since 1965. I have a couple sets of Pachmayr "Professional Compacs" for J frame RB and K frame RB. Over the years the rubber in the grip has gotten "hard" and is slick to the touch. Grips are unaltered and all the original textures are still there, but they are hard and slick. Is there someway to chemically alter the texture so that the slickness is taken out of the grip? Thanks for your input as these grips really fit my hand.

The easiest fix would be to get a new set. If that isn’t an option, I’d try and use some dish soap and a soft toothbrush. It won’t restore the springy feel of the aged rubber but it should help strip the surface of any built up oil and grime.

    Good luck.

The rubber has gassed off from age. They will not restore to the feel they had when newer. If you want spongy rubber on the guns, you need new grips. You wouldn’t keep tires on your car after the rubber has hardened and gone slick and shiny, right? Same thing here.
