One of the many things that always impressed me about this movie was how the Bolivian (I assume) soldiers were armed with FALs instead of the ubiquitous AKs. Just one of those things that make you realize that someone in the production (and maybe the producer/director himself) knew a thing or two about guns.
The Bautista regime ordered the FALs in the 50s. They had a Cuban Crest on the side of the mag well. The Cubans milled out the crest, leaving a hole and gave them to communist rebels in El Salvador, Nicaragua etc in the 70s and 80s. I recall Peter Kokalis did a big write up on them in SOF back in the day.
