Why the hell anyone would intentionally venture to downtown Portland at this point is beyond my comprehension. Particularly after dark. I am increasingly thankful I live where I do.
As for the DA refusing to prosecute misdemeanors or felonies perpetrated by rioters does that same refusal extend to those they may encounter? I.e. if the guy in the truck or his passenger were armed and started slinging lead at the onset of trouble would they too be absolved of any charges?

I think that single thing (firearms) lets Antifa off the hook on assault (felony) charges. They don't carry firearms. Well, maybe some of them do but you don't see many. They just beat people down and take off. The socialist left hates firearms so my guess is if someone actually used one in self defense they would probably be charged and prosecuted. Take a look at Portland's gun laws if you want some idea how that might work.
Basically you can carry in Portland if you have a permit. I doubt that any of the Antifa dickheads have permits. Mostly people who set out to destroy property and assault people don't carry a firearm.A. It is unlawful for any person to knowingly possess or carry a firearm, in or upon a public place, including while in a vehicle in a public place, recklessly having failed to remove all the ammunition from the firearm.
B. It is unlawful for any person to knowingly possess or carry a firearm and that firearm’s clip or magazine, in or upon a public place, including while in a vehicle in a public place, recklessly having failed to remove all the ammunition from the clip or magazine.
C. The following are exceptions and constitute affirmative defenses to a violation of this Section:
3. A person licensed to carry a concealed handgun.
Seattle is a bit different in that OC is legal but for many years the SPD arrested people who open carried. They couldn't be prosecuted though because the Seattle ordinance was found to be unenforceable. WA state law preempted the Seattle ordinance. There was a period here where SPD had to be retrained about open carry. They stopped responding to people freaking out at the sight of a gun. Most of that was from gang related shootings, which were many. As recently as 10 years ago Seattle city council was still passing ordinances to make carry illegal hoping people believed it was enforceable. Mostly political grandstanding.

In the P-F basket of deplorables.
Maybe Nguyễn Ngọc Loan should be the new police chief.
For the first time in my life I've seriously considered carrying a AR with a LAW folder in a briefcase or "grey man" pack of some type in addition to my handgun. And it's this scenario (finding myself in one of these areas by accident) that drives the thought train. Plan A is just driving through. Plan B is emptying a mag from whichever weapon is most applicable and as needed from inside of vehicle if they are dumb enough to breach it and still trying to drive through as events allow. I'm carrying extra mags where I never felt the need to before. I'm carrying the Shield less and less and my J Frame is gathering dust in the safe.
Used to be I was fine with just a J frame. Then I went to a Shield. Now I no longer eye roll at the thought of a rifle in a pack for certain days or trips.
