Y'all I'm about to buy a T3x Lite in .223 to convert to .300 BLK. Can get one for $550. Stop me now if this is a bad idea, but from everything I've heard about Tikka actions it's sounding like a winner while it echoes around in my head.

Slightly derailing this thread, but if I wanted a .300 BLK bolt gun, it would be a Ruger American Ranch rifle. 16.12-inch threaded barrel, takes AR mags. Weighs less than a Tikka lite. About $430 street price. Buying a Tikka and rebarreling it will roughly double that price.

What I did buy was a CVA Scout takedown single shot in .300 BLK for about $330. The pieces fit in a normal backpack, takes a few seconds to reassemble.

The Tikka is all around a nicer rifle than the Ruger but it isn't a terrible choice.

The one concern I would have is how long the action is on the Tikka. The 300 blk is a pretty short cartridge so I would make sure to research how well they feed. Another option is the Howa Mini action

I've been bouncing this around for months. I've never had a Tikka but have heard good things, and from what I read I can expect no feeding problems from a converted 223 variant. Probably sell the new takeoff 223 barrel for a few bucks, but yeah I'll have a fair amount more in it than in a Ruger for example, or even a Remington Seven.

This rifle wouldn't be so much about pinching pennies, which is unusual for me honestly, but I'd like to have a really nice bolt rifle in BLK. Heaven knows I can't explain why. I just have the wantsies.

Maybe just leave it in 223 unless you plan in hunting with it and have a caliber restriction in your area. Bolt action 223's are a blast to shoot.

This is my gunsmith doing the milk jug challenge with his Tikka in 223

Great deal on a Tikka for just the action. As I get more active in PRS like shooting - Tikka actions are so well built that you can but a prefit barrel for a Tikka action. I bought a Tikka T3X Varmint 223 that I like very much and have a Tikka T3 3006 that will eventually be a donor action.
