    I second the book recommendation.
    I read it last spring, and still am reminded of it’s main points on a weekly basis.

    Yes - you should!

    I seem to recall that you have ties to academia… I’ll bet a lot of it will sound eerily familiar to you.

    If you liked this book you'd probably like The Righteous Mind by Haidt as well. His theory on why conservatives and libs are at odds on so many issues seems legit to me.

    I've been reading a lot of Thomas Frank lately - particularly, "The People, No" . It touches on a lot of these themes heavily - and in particular,

    The People, No talks about this extensively. Particularly how the Democrats abandoned labor (their natural/historical voter base) in favor of the professional-managerial class. I think you'd like that book a lot too.
