    Beirut explosion

Here’s something you don’t see every day: mushroom cloud over Beirut

    Speculation abounds, including fireworks...

    That's a big freaking explosion.

    Probably just a "peaceful" protest.

Color of the smoke makes me think something industrial and an accident.

Port explosions are a thing and can be a bitch, just ask anybody who was in Texas city on April 16 1947.

Seems to be a fireworks factory or depot and then something big went off.

There was a fire before the explosion, so my guess is the fire ignited something like dust or grain.

News is saying fire at a fireworks factory that spread to adjacent storage facilities containing respectively fertilizer and grain. Which has to be a cluster-trifecta...

    Of course these things happen:

A fireworks factory next to a storage facility for fertilizer and grain? Perfectly logical. Perhaps the could squeeze in a nuclear power plant next door...or maybe a level 4 biosafety facility.

    My words exactly.

What’s the take-home here? I know! Don’t live in Beirut. And if you do, and see a big pillar of smoke, stop filming and take cover.
