    Apparently, ok, nothing stood out about it.

    Maybe it shouldn't but this surprises me. Thanks.

    PMO Instructor class

    Pistol Mounted Optics Instructor class, 10/25-27

    The range's altitude was about 5600' ASL. Temps were in the high 80s. The round count was about 650.

    Nine sworn students, all carrying their duty guns. I didn’t break down the combos, but these were the pistols/optics:
    G17 – 6;
    G19 – 1;
    G45 – 1;
    G47 – 1;

    Holosun SCS – 2;
    Holosun 507C – 3;
    Trijicon RMR – 2;
    Leupold DPP – 2;

    One of the G17 shooters kept having issues with his optics coming loose. The culprit was a warped MOS plate.

    Gunsite’s 350N – Intermediate Defensive Pistol – Nighttime/Low Light

    Gunsite’s 350N – Intermediate Defensive Pistol – Nighttime/Low Light

    A five afternoon and evening class, with a round count of about 1000 rounds of ball and 150 of frang. Ten students in this class.

    I’m adding the weapon-mounted and handheld lights to the usual data. The students were carrying, using:
    G19, iron sights, no WML, SF G2ZX;
    Sig 320FCU, Holosun SCS, TLR7, SF G2ZX (tried & chucked a Rock Island 1911 and a G17);
    Sig 320 Rx, Romeo 1Pro, Crimson Trace handgun light, SF G2ZX;
    Staccato C2, Holosun 507C, SF X300U-B, SF Fury;
    Sig 320, Romeo1Pro, Crimson Trace handgun light, Fenix handheld;
    Sig P226, irons, TLR1, Fenix handheld;
    H&K VP9, Trij RMR, X300Turbo B, Streamlight ProTac 2L;
    M&P 9mm, Holosun SCS, SF X300B, SF G2ZX;
    Beretta PX4, Holosun 507K green, no WML, SF G2ZX;
    Kimber Desert Warrior 1911, iron sights, SF X300U, Fenix handheld;

    The Rock Island & G17 shooter had functioning issues with those handguns, I don’t recall any issues with any of the optics.

    Meanwhile, the instructors had:
    Vickers 1911, Acro, X300 w/DG switch, SF something or other;
    M&P 9mm, Acro, X300U-A w/DG switch, CD MCH-Duty-HO-DF & Modlite OKW;

    In comparison to the students, I found it interesting that both instructors were using Acro P2 pistol sight and SF X300U’s with DG switches. Additionally, we both used helmet-mounted night vision during the nighttime indoor/outdoor simulator runs as well as when monitoring the unarmed practical application exercises.

    This will be three classes worth of info. All were pistol classes at Gunsite. The first two had round counts between 900-950 of ball and 50+/- of frangible. The weather was in the 50s/60s with rain, wind, and then sun.

    3/25 Defensive Pistol class
    Sig P320 and Trij SRO;
    Glock Gunsite Service Pistol (G45) and Holosun 509T;
    Sig M18;
    Colt 1911 .45ACP;
    Glock 45 and Trij RMR;
    Beretta M9A1;
    Glock 19X;
    Sig P320 and Sig Pro optic;
    Beretta M9A4 and HS 507C;
    Glock 19x;
    CZ 75B SP-01 and Trij SRO;
    Beretta LTT and Trij 507C;
    Sig P220;
    Glock 17;
    Glock 19;
    Springfield XD;
    Aside from one optic loosening, nothing of note on these. And yes, that includes the XD. Whether I would choose it or not is immaterial, but the ones I have seen in class have not failed in the ways described by the errornet.

    4/1 Defensive Pistol w/Optics class

    Glock 19 and Trij RMR;
    Sig P365 and one of their optics;
    Springfield XD and Vortex Venom;
    Glock 17 and HS 507Comp;
    Glock 19 and HS EPS;
    Glock 17 and HS EPS;
    Wilson Combat ED X9 and HS EPS Carry;
    S&W M&P Core and HS 507C;
    Sig P365 and Sig optic;
    Sig P320 and Sig Romeo Pro;
    Nighthawk VP Custom and Trij RMR;
    Sig P320 and Romeo 5;
    Nighthawk Warhawk and Trij RMR;
    Sig P320 X5 Legion and HS 507C;
    Sig P320 and HS 507C;
    One, maybe two, of these had mounting issues – loosened up during the week. Overall, I am not seeing the frequency of mounting failures or issues in classes. Maybe the word is spreading. I am still NOT a fan of using red Locktite on optics; maybe use it on the plates but not on the optic screws.

    Ammunition issues are still a thing, as is ensuring that you lubricate your weapon. Batteries need to be replaced. You should probably do that on a regular schedule. That bit me back in February.

    Between the second and third classes, I taught at TacCon and A Girl & A Gun, shot two matches, and RO’d/SO’d a stage. Few, if any, issues were mentioned there.

    At an L/E match, I saw a much greater number of Aimpoint Acros on pistols than I usually see. That was a good thing.

    4/29 Defensive Pistol w/optics class
    The third involved students who were all from one entity. Their round count was over a thousand each of 9mm ball and over 50 rounds of frang. For them, the temps were in the high 70s. All their pistols were from Shadow Systems, with the shipped MagPul PMags, and their optics were from Holosun.
    MR920L and 507C;
    DR920 and 508T;
    DR920L and 508T – dead trigger on TD2. Resolved by completely disassembling the slide, wiping down the striker assembly (ball tip, not chisel tip), Q-Tip’ing the striker channel, and re-assembling);
    DR920 and EPS – his first magazines had Federal ball with the jacket shedding with frag all over the target at 3-5 yards. Bbl was replaced, and the ammunition was changed;
    DR920 and 507Comp – over the course of the week, two of the four PMags had a stuck follower at some point;
    DR920 and 507C – one PMag suffered a broken mag spring;
    MR920P and 509T;
    XR920 and 509T;

    They were using Aguila ball ammunition and had a disgustingly high number of failures to fire. To say the range between the 3—and 15-yard lines was littered with live rounds that had good “firing pin” strikes would not be overstating it.

    I was interested in how the PMags would perform in the class. Like every other type of magazine, you need to vet yours in your firearms. During the three years, I carried a Glock for work, my on-duty spares were 21st PMags. I vetted several of them in a Spaulding pistol class on a sand range – I did not experience issues with them in that class or during use. I’m aware the errornet has a different opinion.
    One of the eight shooters had two magazines with stuck followers—not consistently, but they were noted and mentioned when asked. And one spring broke. That’s out of the 32-40 magazines (or more) the students had – because some used four, others had lots.
