Indeed. I had a 1992 for several years. That thing never left me walking. I got a little scared of the 4.0L piston slap and dumped it cheap. Ran into the guy I sold it to three years later and he was still driving on the same engine and had put another 40k on it without a problem. Great vehicle off road.

The biggest drawback I found with them is that the track width is too narrow to drive on the two-tracks in a cattle pasture comfortably.

I had a '99 4dr XJ 4x4 Sport. Bought it new and drove it for ten years finally trading it in qith right at 200k miles on it. Had to do a little work to it over the miles. Mainly AC compressors but changed at least one alternator and had one other engine related mechanical problem I can't specifically recall now. Needed new shocks. Overall very mechanically reliable.with the 4.0L inline 6. I shoulda kept it.

It took me places where it probably shouldn't have but neither the Jeep nor I knew any better. Never got stuck. If I had one, Id put a small lift on it.

My brother has an older XJ 2dr as a knock around.

    My '95 GMC Sierra w/ 350 TBI.

We don't use the off road capabilities all that much, but it's nice to have the capability, even if only to make it to the frontage road to go around a crash or a rare trip to the beach. We don't get pushed around on the freeway either.

Did not see Butch or Sundance, but probably pissed on some of the same rocks they did....not difficult to get to but certainly not a route to try with your minivan...

One of my assistant managers is quite the 4x4 enthusiast. I hit him up for some pics from the trail with his friends so I could share them. His daughter was driving in the pics with the Gold ZJ. Looks like good times.
