"NEWINGTON, N.H., (April 16, 2025) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) is transitioning all their troopers to the SIG M17 pistol with a SIG ROMEO-M17 red dot optic.
We are proud the Texas DPS chose the SIG M17 as its official sidearm,” began Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, Law Enforcement Sales for SIG SAUER, Inc. “Having selected the ROMEO-M17 red dot optic, TXDPS conducted an exhaustive testing process, firing thousands upon thousands of rounds, and concluded that the SIG ROMEO-M17, optimized with the SIG M17 pistols, was the clear choice for their agency.”
I'm not LEO, obviously, but I was curious how many officers this might be. Could one of our Tejas-familiar members estimate the rough size of this order for the DPS? All I found so far was a general description of TX DPS here:
"The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is responsible for statewide law enforcement functions in Texas, including highway enforcement, combating gangs and drug cartels, investigating public corruption, apprehending fugitives, and solving serial criminal cases."

I tried one of those AI-sourced answers and got this, but I don't know if it's accurate:
"The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has approximately 2,802 authorized troopers as part of the Texas Highway Patrol division. Additionally, the Criminal Investigations Division consists of 700 members, including 573 commissioned officers."
