Right now, I am navigating the home knife rules which preclude a small fixed blade. I am familiar with the NYC flick issues and will come up with solution for that locale at the appropriate time.

I was thinking something with a wharncliffe blade given the utility nature of such a design (and ease of sharpening).

Unless they have radically changed the Dragonfly, (mine is several years old), the tension of the back lock does not allow for a flick opening, such as a gravity knife or other easily flickable blade can achieve. You can open with one hand...but not flick. (Well, most can open with one hand. My hand generally makes me use a second hand due to the small size of the knife frame.)

Here is a very good summary of NY and NYC legal issues.

Regarding specific knife recommendations, I am a big fan of pocket opening. If she likes the Dragonfly:

I have a couple of these, and my only complaint is that the handle is tiny.

One of my favorite EDC knives:

Dragonfly and Delica both come in wharncliffe iterations, FWIW. The delica in a sprint run color would be awesome.

If you think she might like burnt orange (the best sprint wharnie color, IMHO) then act fast, since they’re out of stock everywhere else:

I’ve had the same sharpmaker since they came out. Mandatory for a two-thumber such as myself.

Holy crap, did someone here just buy the last burnt orange from Omaha? It was listed as in stock a second ago...?

If the Dragonfly is preferred and nice looking is important, this version might be hard to beat.

My Dragonfly 2 is on me right now. I love it. 1 oz, super sharp, closed, its tiny; open, it feels like a much larger knife.

Without knowing the purpose of the knife, there are two recommendations:

01: General Purpose: Swiss Army knife. https://www.swissarmy.com/us/en/Prod...y-Knives/c/SAK

02-A: Specific to interpersonal relationships: I'd ask Michael Janich to recommend an appropriate folding knife. info@martialbladeconcepts.com.

02-B: A knife can be fully equivalent to a J-frame within mugging distance, but both of them benefit from specialized instruction. Janich has instructors scattered about. https://www.martialbladeconcepts.com...ructor-locator

Many people carry both a SAK and a good folder.
