Back in the 80s when full auto was a tax stamp away there was a smith, I wanna say in OK, who specialized in the HK system, and sent HK-53s out the door pretty regularly. An 8 inch barreled .308 was cool. Even if the bullet missed the muzzle blast would knock the bad guy to the ground, and the muzzle flash would cook them.

The instructor for my HK instructor School had a HK51 with a drum in his work truck. Sadly his truck was back east and he’d borrowed another instructor’s truck for our class. So I never got to shoot it

ETA but I did carry a full auto HK53 for several years. It was a beast. The best place to be was behind it. The thump to the sides was something.
