This is true.
I've had a few .30 cal semis, including a Garand and a SA M1A. But the one I truly regret letting go of was a German-made HK91 that I purchased new in the early 90s for $500, along with the matching HK bipod and clamp-on scope mount. It wouldn't be the first rifle I'd reach for during a zombie apocalypse, but there is ZERO doubt it would be the first one to pull from the safe to fondle for the same reason as if were a pedigree FAL.
How I remain haunted by such bad decisions...
