Vickers goes to work with an FAL

Makes me kind of wish I hadn't gotten out of the .308 semi-auto game and kept my FAL Files group buy kit build and CETME...

I deeply regret missing the boat on that recent run of IDF FAL's that DSA offered. That video didn't help!

The FAL has remained that one rifle that I have alway lusted after yet has continued to elude my grasp. Instead I “married” it’s toothless inbred American cousin (actually I like the M14).

The wood furniture variants are the sexiest of all of them!

There is something about a 308 battle rifle. They may not be the most practical thing for most situations but they still have their place. I have done my fair share of musical guns in the past; particularly for 308 semi autos. PTR, Larue OBR and tOBR, HK MR762, LMT, Colt 901, Scar 17s(x3) and a 20s (I tried to love the 17s 3 different times but they always ended up sold) and Swiss 751. I did Like the PTR. I will likely pick up another as I have 150 dollars worth of magazines for it(so like 100 mags) with nothing to feed with them. A FAL has been on the list but I already have three patterns of 308 mags and I don’t think a 4th is practical at this point. It is the same reason I sold the Swiss 751.

The one that has really surprised me is the colt LE901-16SE. I got it as a compromise so that I could retain an AR10 of some type after selling my more expensive guns. The thing is everything a modern battle rifle should be and the fact that it is one piece of 7075T6 aluminum frame front to back really reenforces my confidence in its durability. It has a medium to heavy contour barrel and a heat shield and it still weights about as much as a SCAR if you change the stock out. Not to mention it doesn’t have a poly lower. It has been reliable and accurate beyond my expectations. Other than the PTR it is the one I paid the least for but has been my favorite. It is really a shame Colt didn’t know how to market it.

So for the time being the Colt and a Scar 20s remain. And a 100 G3 mags.
