Years ago, I saw a small poster at the Amarillo, TX PD range that was referring to street fights and the police, but now I think it's applicable to this place getting into a shooting war and an eventual Balkanization. The poster said:

    No shit.
It went from quite a few people wearing masks to hardly anyone wearing masks.

I'm sensing a healthy dose of "fuck you, make me" from people of all stripes these days.

The snowball has certainly accelerated on its way down the slope. The fact that politicians and the states / municipalities they represent thumb their noses at the law, (as Jody alluded to earlier), is indicative of just how virulent that particular political pandemic has become.

NJ doesn't recognize LEOSA and federal law regarding firearm carry.

Sanctuary cities pop up around the U.S.

Cities refuse to cooperate with federal authorities.

National leaders continue to support a false narrative regarding police incidents involving young black men despite the facts, the law, evidence and grand jury findings.

A rush to judgment by mayors and prosecutors to indict officers before the facts are in.

A Supreme Court that finds a way to justify rulings that are not in the spirit of the Constitution.

A demand for the law to not be impartial, but rather favor some people because of their identity...be it racial, gender related, sexual preference or other.

    All lives don't matter.

The two parent household is no longer considered reflective of the American ideal or something to be desired.

Standards for admission to schools of higher education or employment in the public sector are being "dumbed down".

I'm sure I've only touched upon the tip of the iceberg that our own particular Titanic is cruising full steam ahead toward.

Just like law and order, money is also a consensual hallucination. Money, like the law, only has value and power if people believe it does. After all, money is just some special linen with words and symbols printed on it and coinage is just base metal alloys stamped with roughly the same words and symbols.

And once the ability to enforce the law is gone, the value of the fiat currency is sure to follow. The dollar is what it is because the US can project force. If fed.gov cannot get US citizens to follow laws, then why would anyone believe a dollar is worth anything?

Either way...it looks like trouble ahead.

A Trump win will most probably result in a major increase in violence, because some folks just can't bear another 4 years of the "Bad Orange Man". That, and they just don't care.
A Trump loss, well, either they will give it the final hard push, and seek restorative justice for all the terrible crimes against humanity under which they have suffered. Or, they will pull back a little and see if the Progressive Left actually implements all of the changes they have been promising. If the left does not come through for them, then we may see the anarchist's bite the hand that feed's them. That will certainly be some "interesting" times.

I think we are still at the stage where the ballot box and the jury box is still the solution. Barely.

I honestly don't expect things to ratchet down for quite awhile. Most of the "Great Woke White" movement are in this fantasy of being in a great Socialist (Communist)Revolution, and that in the end it will be true equality, free college and Starbucks for all. They haven't figured out yet that they are truly the "useful idiots", and have no clue what fate will befall them at at the end of the revolution. They are under the illusion that since they helped perpetuate the change, that they will get a seat at the "adult table". I think they will soon understand the expression, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

All in all, I don't see a return for normalcy for quite a while. Many have discovered the "rush" of destruction and violence, and they really enjoy it.

Nowadays it’s just a bunch of ones and zeros. I’ve seen “let us buy your change” at a few stores around here.

    Where is the tipping point?

What this means is the true end of the republic and the social contract that tied it together. Consent of the governed is no more.

Balkanization. For what it's worth, my wife is from the Former Yugoslavia. About a week into the riots she remarked how the media and politicians are weaving the same kind of narratives and things were polarizing in a way very eerily similar to Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. And guess what global financier was heavily involved in the Balkans in the early 1990s?

Law and order must be ENFORCED, or it isn’t a law, it’s a suggestion.
For instance, my (Democrat) state governor said yesterday that he didn’t want to pursue a state law requiring mask use during the pandemic “because I don’t think it will increase compliance.”. What you just posted, from the left, and on NPR (I know, I know) they had a right leaning Sheriff from East Texas who did not want to enforce masks because he felt it was unconstitutional......
Now, leaving aside the debate over whether that SHOULD be done, his answer conveyed his liberal view of law enforcement - that people “aught” to follow the law, but a reluctance to ENFORCE the law.
This kinder, gentler attitude misses the point that laws are passed to COMPEL (or, more often FORBID) certain behavior. And they only work if they’re enforced. Otherwise there is no actual compelling or forbidding going on.

So in the case of @blues ‘s question, if law and order are ENFORCED by the authorities (police and courts), and the greater population is down with that, things work in a civilized society. If it’s not enforced, there is no law and order, and society breaks down.
There certainly seem to be pockets in the country lately where the latter approach is being tried.
