You found his website? http://theoasisofmysoul.com/ Archives are worth checking out.

I've never driven a rig with a sidecar... Must try it some day, now that I've slowed down and traded my litrebike rice rocket for an antique Beemer.

Yes, ive seen his site and blog. He used to post on some of the offroad and adventure forums.

I havent driven a sidecar rig either, so far. I realized it was the only practical way to ride and not forsake the dog (and just have fun together), and give me more options to ride without my damaged body calling all the shots. Im close to getting it done but life keeps getting complicated and busy. Need 2 mounts modified and parts powder coated, then should be able to hook it up.

I like your use of the word "interesting." By the end of the sentence I had a different word in mind!

I think Mr. Taibbi takes the arguments at face value, which is a mistake as the arguments are not made in good faith. The arguments are just there to justify the wants. The fact that the arguments are so wrong as to violate federal law (extra time off and different salaries for "people of color") and so stupid (saying it is white privilege to be able to use the scientific method) that one can only conclude that the arguments are only justification for "more". It is like asking your child why something needs to be purchased and getting a response of "because". It is just a bit more fancy of a "because".

Ignore the justifications and look at the wants. Arguing about the justifications ends no where as one cannot argue with a person whose response to logic and evidence is that "the scientific method is privilege". The real answer is they want more and how they get it is of no concern. How this will end is interesting because "Ultima ratio regum" was stamped on cannons for a reason; the argument was over at that point.

It certainly encourages one to be fully in the moment.

Its also part of the very elemental feeling that riding older motorcycles tends to bring to the riding experience. Many dislike much of the inconvenience or annoyance of such things, but to some, its a large part of the enjoyment.
