If you don't want police to support the rule of law then vote for a city mayor who doesn't want to support the rule of law. Cities can't distance themselves from states because of preemption clauses. State law is supreme in all cases except federal law. In the case of state law the city of Seattle is not in compliance. No big surprise there. They routinely thumb their nose at state code. CHAZ is going to get expensive. An attorney friend of mine is thinking about postponing 100% retirement because of the insurance claims that will need to be adjudicated.
