    Week 377: 3x5 Cold

    Week 377: 3x5 Cold

Results may be posted until July 19th, 2020.

    Designed by: DocGKR
    Range: Varies
    Target: 3x5 card
    Start position: Varies (concealed preferred)
    Rounds fired: 2

We'll do something very simple this week. The first two shots you fire at the range should be to a 3x5 card, timed for score. That's it. Just do it once per day. The important part is that you shoot it cold, no warm up, no dry-fire, no sight pictures. Don't point the gun at the target or anything else to "get ready" for the drill. You score bonus points if you do it with your carry ammo without fiddling with your magazines first, either.

Distance is up to you. Start position is up to you, though shooting it from concealment is preferred as usual.

If you go to the range more than once this week, try this each time and record all your results.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

    Distance to target
Start position (concealed, retention, open top holster, or ready position)
    Time
    Number of hits

I've been working from this position in dry practice and have decided to dedicate some time to learning it. The gun torqued right in my hand and so it took an abnormally long split to correct. Very slow but had to guarantee the hits.

I've been practicing Gabe's immediate incapacitation drill. I want to get to Light/Turbo level consistently.

I wish more people participated, regardless of skill level. We all started somewhere and we're all competing with ourselves to improve over previous performances. I miss the days of multi page dotw entries. Not picking on you or your performance, just the relevant comment brought up a thought.

So, I had 4 days this week at the dept. indoor range, and remembered this from a while back and gave it a go once per day. Cold, “duty” ammo.
Monday and Tuesday were second shots off the card(!!), and slow to boot. While I remembered the drill, I did not remember Mr. White’s year distance=7 yards. All my runs @5 yards this week.
    Yesterday, concealed under jacket, JMCK OWB2, a Gen5G19MOS w/ACRO launching Hornady 135 gr.+P:3.06 2 hits.
Today, before some carbine transition work, 124 gr.+P Hornady out of G26 out of a GLS holster, unconcealed:2.92 2h.
The 26 has BOLD sights and I had the 12 round mag in.
I like this little drill, even though I think I’m “admiring” the sight too much.
I’ll push back to 7 yards next week.
Safe and happy 4th-hang in there, patriots!

I ran it at 5yds last week and this week too. Both times from concealment under an untucked polo shirt with my
edc G19 and AIWB JMCK holster.

Last week's run was 2.46 sec clean. This week was 2.57 dirty! Both rounds off the 3x5 and set the tone for the rest of the session.

Then my timer took a dump.

Slightly modified, aimed for 4x4 head of steel target (16 in²) at 10 yds
    Gen 3 19
    Faxon slide with RMR06
Minuteman Defense Gatcaddy AIWB with boogboi Hawaiian shirt
    Hands at sides, neutral

    Day 1:
    1.98, 2 hits

    Day 2:
    2.03, FAIL, 1 hit (1st good, 2nd miss [low])

Will try again Saturday. I'll also note that, were I a betting man, these aren't times I would bank on. In sports terms you may have heard, "He was really seeing the ball well today." There's some truth to that. Some days are much better than others.

I'll be on the far far end of the curve...

    Cold:
    Distance: 7 yards
Pistol: P2000 LEM with factory sights
Holster: JMCK Wing Claw under a button up shirt and T-shirt
    Start position: High fence
Ammo: 145gr RN over 4.0gr WSF (a rough analog of 147 gr HST)
    Time: 6.33 clean

    Second run, immediately after first:
    Distance: 7 yards
    Pistol: P2000 SK LEM
Holster: JMCK Wing Claw under a button up shirt and T-shirt
    Start position: High fence
Ammo: 145gr RN over 4.0gr WSF (a rough analog of 147 gr HST)
    Time: 4.50 clean

Definitely spent way too much time confirming my sight picture on the first run - my hits were dead center of the index card, and almost touching.

    Plenty of room for improvement.
