I have always seen perforations of soft body armor treated as binary events. I am curious about the performance of a rifle round that penetrates soft armor. Is anyone aware of any reputable testing to that effect. I imagine two chronographs set up in front of and behind a panel being tested might be very instructive. There is a big difference in, say a 147 gr projectile at 1000 fps vs. a 147 gr projectile at 2600 fps. Is my thinking way off base here? Incidental data on the extent of tissue destruction with a soft armor penetration versus a similar unarmored shot might yield some information as well. Surely, this has been looked at and I just have missed it.
Thanks,
Jon
