It’s nearly identical under the hood and S&W does well with these. Buy in confidence.

IIRC, Rob_s chart shows them as pretty quality.

It's what I use for my patrol rifle and am well satisfied, but I'm 100% a user level knowledge base only and not a demanding consumer.
Sorta around sometimes for some of your shitty mod needs.

Escapee from the SF Bay Area now living on the Front Range of Colorado.
I have/had experience with two M&P15s (one of which I took to CSAT) and they have both performed very well.

Different model, I have the M&P15 TS and it has been a good, reliable rifle. I've heard the same from NC officers who have been assigned one as their patrol rifle.
There's nothing civil about this war.

I shot with the SW rep in a 3 day Pat Rogers class in 08. Nice guy and his OEM rifle w an Aimpoint IIRC ran without issues.

The LEO/Govt series, was pronounced GTG by PR.

OMB sold a number of these to officers in the area as various depts were standing patrol rifle programs.
These were avail. at a decent price relative to many other brands in the aftermath of the 08 elections.
No issues other than a few with an extremely tight magwell when ran with a full 30 round Magpul mag.
Solutions including, running aluminum mags, exchanging the lower which SW did with out issue or a few file strokes.

IIRC the genesis of the issue was the outside manufacturer of that batch of lowers. SW either switched or brought it in house.

Bottom line-buy it if the price is right.

I have a M&P15 TS (13"Troy rail, 1/7 twist, chrome-lined 14.5"bbl with pinned Vortex) and I'm issued a M&P15 Sport II. I *think* the M&P15TS is the better rifle BUT I've had excellent luck out of the Sport II. The only issue I've experienced was the castle nut (which was staked) came loose, likely due to riding around in a rifle rack. The TS has been perfect. There was also a big difference in the MSRP of the two if them.
