Didn't she have socialism from whence she came? If not then why did she choose to come to a capitalist country when there were so many socialist countries to choose from?

Things that make me (son of immigrant and married to one) say hmmm

I believe that India is a democratic republic. If socialism exists there people voted for it. Sawant wouldn't be on the council unless people voted for a socialist.
In the P-F basket of deplorables.

I’m simply saying why would a person who hates capitalism move to a capitalist country when so many other countries share her world view?

Because she wants all the non-socialist countries to adopt socialism, too.
(BTW, she is a communist who adopts the mantle of socialism for US public relations purposes.
India has two Communist parties as part of their political process. One is explicitly Marxist. They are the elected government of the State of Kerala.)

Probably so she can make more money introducing socialism to a country that hasn't really practiced socialism to any large degree.

As of April 2018, salaries of councilmembers are authorized to be $62.11 per hour, an increase of 5% from 2017. This is equivalent to an annualized pay of $129,685.68.
Not bad for an immigrant. Originally a software engineer she found her calling. I've known a few software engineers and none of them were socialists, quite the contrary. Being an advocate for socialism in Seattle pays pretty well, especially if you're from a poor undeveloped country and not white. Notice that she dresses in her native garb for effect. Flim-flamery.

    Know the foe:

2012: Sawant challenged incumbent House speaker Frank Chopp in the general election on November 6, 2012. She received 29% of the vote to Chopp's 70%:

    2013: After her unsuccessful run for the House, Sawant entered the race for Seattle City Council with a campaign organized by the Socialist Alternative. On November 15, 2013, incumbent Richard Conlin conceded to Sawant when returns showed him down by 1,640 votes or approximately 1% of the vote;

2015: Voters returned Sawant to the City Council and made her the first District 3 representative in November 2015, with 17,170 votes counted for Sawant and 13,427 for Banks, or 56% to 44%

2019: In a blow to Amazon, the socialist candidate Kshama Sawant appeared on Saturday to have beaten the business-backed Egan Orion for a seat on Seattle city council, despite an unprecedented financial effort from the tech giant. Amazon is headquartered in the city. It ploughed $1.5m into the city council election through a political action committee sponsored by the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. On election night she (Sawant) trailed Orion by 8%. But as more ballots were counted she closed the gap, and by Friday evening, with the vast majority of ballots counted, she was up by almost 4%, or about 1,500 votes.

Not a mandate by any means.

In terms of not batshit crazy stuff that I'm sure many Seattle voters would support:

The core issues of Sawant's campaign were a successful minimum wage increase to $15/hour, a successful "millionaire's tax" or income tax on wealthy Seattleites, and an unsuccessful rent control program.

(My note: why did the millionaires tax pass and the rent control fail, seems odd.)

She is also a supporter of expanding public transit and bikeways, ending corporate welfare, ending racial profiling, reducing taxes on small businesses and homeowners, protecting public sector unions from layoffs, living wage union jobs, and social services.

(Again, not things to which many liberals are opposed)

Okie John: Has she risen to levels of bat shit crazy that will be enought to blunt her appeal to what appears to be her 5% advantage in the last election?

Because she wanted to be a rich software engineer, but was so shocked by the level of poverty in the United States (as compared to India? LOL) she abandoned hsoftware engineering and partook a PhD in Economics at North Carolina State.

Not a fan, she has a Wiki page.

So my “question” was rhetorical. Her immigration was not “yearning to breath free.” She had other motivations I suspect.

Her platform has not changed but voters have seen enough of it in action to understand what it really means now.
