    Retirement qual today.

My agency had our retirement qual today, which was a bit of a surprise since rona's still in town. I showed up in an Hawaiian shirt and qualed with my 4506, so I had the biggest gatt and the coolest shirt. Over half the guys were sporting. 380s and the like. I told the rangemaster i'd wait and let the ladies shoot first. One of the boys from my old division showed up with an HK P7, our divisions old issued sidearm. I'd say he tied me for gun hipster style points, but he was only dressed in a t-shirt, without Ray Bans or Van's, so I'd call it a tie.

Does your state just qual on one type of pistol (semi/revolver) ?

The state allows qual on both revolver and semi-auto, but I don't bother with a wheelgun.

Is there anyway I could express how novel and kewl the 645/4506 was to us back in the day to the youngins? I doubt it.

Odd as it is, the 4506 may be more hipster than the P7 now. The 4506 is less talked about/ shown on YouTube these days.

I don't bother with wheel guns at LEOSA quals either. (I carry those on the state permit.) I only care about qualifying with the gun that I'll have with me when I'm not around home or walking distances...or out of state. State permit take care of anything else.

Does LEOSA limit you to the weapon you shoot during the qual?

I love wheelguns but haven't carried one in any capacity for well over twenty years. If I ever get a hair up it and decide to do so my state has constitutional carry, so I just don't bother to qual with one.

No. Qual with a semi-auto and you can carry any semi-auto, same with revolvers. Individual states and departments can put their own spin on that, so restrictions can differ.

My agency has always been very pro gun. Our off duty and BUG policies were always wide open as well.

It goes according to the state policy, despite being a federal program.

In NC you have to qualify with the weapons you intend to carry. So, up until now I would qualify with a G26 and a G19 since I didn't have a backup for the 26.

But now that I have a Gen5 coming Wednesday, I'll only qualify with the 26 since they only record make and model, not serial number. One 26 is the same as any other.

The 26 is enough gun for me, especially with a 12 round mag. Ten round standard mags for restrictive states.

(Anything else I want to carry, I just carry under my state CCW license.)

Wouldn't your retirement gig's qualification count for LEOSA purposes?
