Trust me, its not.
Usually, they are sharpening the axe and getting prepared to cut you off at the knees.
My admin mistakenly had me out 4 days on an incident I ended up receiving awards and medals for. They forgot to call and give me the all clear.
Lots of down time wondering if they were nitpicking videos for policy violations.
It was no vacation.
Regards.
I'm pretty sure the "victims" of the meme are up there because, presuming the allegations against them are true, they're not fit to be cops.
I'm 100% sure the guy getting the lawyer-proof paid suspension is a retard. Whether he deserves to be fired is up to the specifics of his department and contract.
How is it so fucking hard to comprehend the idea that one is a public official, and thus shouldn't post dumb shit under their own name?
...and thus shouldn't post dumb shit under their own name?
How about not post dumb shit at all?
Because that suggests that public officials have less of a right to laugh at dumb shit than the rest of us. I'm suggesting that anybody with half a brain should protect their necks. Everyone says some dumb shit that's offensive to somebody at some point. If you don't think you do, you're truly ignorant or completely naive. And just because some dumb shit you say isn't offensive now, there's no guarantee that it won't be considered offensive in the future.
What I think is retarded is that so many people make it so damn easy to link their dumb shit to their actual identities. Most of you get away with it because you're just not important enough for anyone to care.
In this instance, the dude in question is such a blithering idiot that I don't even feel sorry for him.
Wise A etc.
If you are a public official to include LEOs and you post ANYTHING in social media other than
1. Congratulations (i.e. birth/adoption of a child, marriage, promotions, graduations etc.)
2. Happy Birthday
3. I am a sorry for your loss
your risks that a posting will be used against your interest at some point in your professional life goes up exponentially.
"Because that [not posting dumb shit at all] suggests that public officials have less of a right to laugh at dumb shit than the rest of us."
In private, public officials have all the rights in the world to laugh at whatever dumb shit they want. In public, public officials, to include LEOs,do not have that same latitude.
Old School Rule
Do not post anything in Social Media that you would not want your mother to read above the fold in your town's daily newspaper....Or not.
Er...maybe. As I've reported previously:
I joked privately with a Muslim, (from Lebanon), fellow agent and was reported to Internal Affairs for being racist and intimidating by a female analyst eavesdropping on our "private conversation"...which is funny because this guy had been on Lebanon's Olympic weightlifting team and could have crushed me like a walnut in a fight.
We had many such moments because I would jokingly tell him I couldn't use him on my undercover terror related investigations because his loyalties were in question. (We both knew I couldn't use him because he was too new and needed more training and seasoning.)
So, yeah, private conversations...not so much protection. Of course, everyone from the allegedly injured agent to an Associate SAC told the IA investigator that the allegation was absurd. (On the bright side, I got a clearance letter "proving" I wasn't a xenophobic racist. )
She probably couldn't help herself. Her husband was the chief of station for NSA. So it was probably more than she could bear as eavesdropping would have come natural to her. I'm surprised she didn't wire the office.

Blues:
I do not think that somebody overhearing a one on one "private" conversation (in public so to speak as per your example in an office ) and posting stupid shit on social media is the same thing.
Indeed, I bet you never posted anything remotely like that on social media for the whole world to see.
