Thread: Suggestions for replacement carry piece?

    Suggestions for replacement carry piece?

My recent foray into the world of DA/SA hammer fired guns has diminished my enthusiasm for striker fired pistols, so I want to replace my Springfield XDs with something slightly larger, a compact vs. a sub-compact. My parameters are pretty basic at this point:

    Hammer fired (of course)
    DA/SA
Decocker separate from safety (not a deal breaker)
    Prefer metal frame
    Double stack magazine
    9 mm
Budget up to $600 or so

This will be my EDC, so I'm looking for reliability, concealability, and good trigger. BTW, I have fairly large hands, I find the Beretta 92 grip quite comfortable, while a 1911 feels too short to the trigger. TIA.

    Dave

How would you compare the 07 vs 01? Which would you pick for scenario X and why?

I would (and did) choose the P-07 for all uses. I have two. It’s my primary CCW. Carries like a G19. Shoots like a CZ. The three grip inserts provide a wide range of hand fit.

See Mike Pannone’s review of the P-07.

But if for some reason you want a metal gun, the P-01 is great.

All the suggestions above are great and would likely suit your needs, but if you're looking for another option an early 2000's Sig P229 or W. German P228 would fit the bill nicely as well.

At that price, perhaps a used SIG 229? I haven’t found anything I shoot better than the 226, but not everyone is confortable carrying one. I find myself not carrying the 228, but using the 226 or 239 when I need to go smaller.

The Berettas are very nice, and I’ve been shooting them lately. However, I like the size options on the SIG just a bit better.

I will throw another vote in for the P30 or P30sk. You can go the V1 Light LEM route or the DA/SA with the decocker only. OR go with an S model. You've got options and the pistol is well tested. Very solid guns, the SA reset is a little sloppy but definitely something you can get used to and run fast.

In the desert, looking for water.
If you like the 92, why not a 92 or 92 compact?

HK P30/P30L, P2000 or Beretta 92 Compact/92 Centurion (either with Langdon grips, of course).

    Best, Jon
