    Technique Questions from Dot Torture

Shot a Dot Torture for the first time at a class.

I was reviewing the target and I noticed that in circles # 2 & 9 my shots from the holster seem consistently low.

I also seem to have a "flier" for almost every circle.

Why's this happening, and what's the fix?

    Thanks!

What gun, what distance? Your results look good, at first glance!

"Fliers" happen, because consistency is difficult, at least for me.

Gen 5 G19 MOS with Type 1 RMR Rm06 mounted on CHPWS V4 RECCE plate.

3 yards. Not timed, not rushed. Though I may have done draws at full speed (honestly, I can't recall if I went full speed or half speed), I slowed down to make the shot.

EDIT: Another oddity I just noticed is when I had to do a transition (#4 & 7) those groups are smaller than the first.

Boredom is my number one issue with Dot Torture. I like three strings — freestyle, support hand and strong hand. Done.
Likes pretty much everything in every caliber.

Where are you holding your dot? Center of the circle? Or at 12 o'clock on the circle?

Your mechanical offset between the dot and the bore at 3 yards could very well account for those low ones. Especially so with an MOS since the RMR sits higher on an MOS than on a milled slide.

Remember, the Dot Torture is not timed. You might be trying to rush the the shot after drawing.

I know this because this is one of my problems with the Dot Torture (aside from not being able to hit the broad side of a barn).

    Not aiming. Aim more.

Every time i pull shots low like that in Dot Torture, it's because I said "NOW" and jerked the trigger.

This, what Randy Harris said and clenching the hand(s) in anticipation.
Dry fire and “ball and dummy”, then live fire carefully.
Not a bad target for a first go, tho...

I'd be happy with that target.
