EDC Fixed Blades: What and how do you carry?

What fixed blade(s) are you all carrying everyday?

    What is their purpose?

Where and how do you carry them?

What role do they fill for you?

Do you train with them? If so, how?

Post a picture if you have one.

Mostly an AMTAC Minuteman, sometimes an AMTAC Northman if the Minuteman is too big.
    What is their purpose?
Self Defense only. Last ditch combatives weapon, or a "get off me" tool in weapons retention.
Where and how do you carry them?
Almost exclusively carried in my pocket on my "other strong hand". Sometimes carried in my belt, but very rarely.
What role do they fill for you?
Completely defensive, never utilitarian. Sometimes they open amazon boxes.
Do you train with them? If so, how?
Not as much as I should. I have no formal edged weapon training, so my own training is more just practicing draw.

What fixed blade(s) are you all carrying everyday?

Shivworks Production Clinch Pick v1 with hockey tape wrapped around the handle for improved grip.

    What is their purpose?

Knife things. Man's second oldest tool after a hammer has pretty straight forward uses.

Where and how do you carry them?

11:30, on the belt, kydex sheath that was dehorned/de-edged with a Dremel and acetone, Velcro One-Wrap to secure it.

What role do they fill for you?

Knife roles. Sometimes a fixed blade is more useful than a folder, particularly when you're doing heavy cutting tasks. I often carry both.

Do you train with them? If so, how?

Yes. Shivworks: Edged Weapons Overview and Immediate Action Combatives: Immediate Actions Jiu Jitsu (which has weapon access elements to it). I also now train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ~2x a week. Which allows me to contextualize grappling and entangled fighting with my existing framework for weapon access and deployment.

I carry this knife gifted to me by the late maker Darrel Ralph most days. I use it for knife stuff. (Don't mean to be facetious.)

The gun is my nightstand gun. It never gets carried.

I don't train with it. (The knife.) But I know what to do with it when called upon. That is no guarantee of success.

A TDI LE knife in an aftermarket sheath. One of these days I’ll get an El Nińo from Shivworks.

What fixed blade(s) are you all carrying everyday?
I generally carry a Clinch pick 1.0 in a Cecil Burch designed sheath.

    What is their purpose?
It is a get off me knife

Where and how do you carry them?
I carry at 1130 with the handle in the inguinal crease.

Do you train with them? If so, how?
I train BJJ and try to make it to IAJJ and ECQC as often as possible.

The only fixed blade I carry is my Ban Tang Clinch Pick in the JM Customs sheath that Cecil helped develop.

It's raison d'etre is self defense. If I'm in a tangle with someone with life on the line, that's when it gets used. Thankfully I haven't needed it yet.

It's carried centerline just to the left of my belt buckle so I can get to it with either hand.

The small fixed blade knife is peerless for defensive application.

I have trained with them. I've done some blade work with Chris Frye, Greg Ellifritz, and Craig, including EWO. The actual use of the knife part is pretty simple, thankfully. It's all that position and control stuff that's hard to do and perishable.

I missed the training part of the question. The only knife training I’ve had was Greg Ellifritz’s class a few months ago.

I also have the TDI training knife and a Spyderco Delica trainer, I should be working with them more often. Lately I’ve been carrying a Spyderco Stretch for everyday use.

Remove the “ED” from “EDC,” and my “C” fixed-blade has mostly been a Shivworks Clinch Pick. Purpose and role are purely defensive, for the FUT. Carry position has been left of mid-line, belt level, for the downward draw that the designer(s) intended. Training has been solo drills.

Why not “every day?” Well, way back when, my first Clinch Pick’s sheath eventually cracked. Now, I have several, but, I just don’t wear a belt every day, anymore.
