The Spyderco ball bearing lock is interesting. Some day I'm going to take one apart and compare to and Axis Lock. I know it's enough different to avoid patent infringement when Benchmade's patent was still in force, but I've never compared diagrams or the locks themselves.
Are the kitchen knives any good? In other words, are they worth the price relative to other options in the same range?

Looking more at the utility type than the fancy type

I have limited exposure to their kitchen cutlery, but what I do have says that this is good stuff.
I don’t remember if my wife has a Counter Critter or a Counter Puppy. I think the handle is too short and thin, but she loves it - my hands are much, much larger than hers. Kinda makes sense as I am more than 6" taller than she is as well.
All that said: I am rather picky about my kitchen cutlery b/c my dad hand forges high end and practical kitchen cutlery. So I don’t buy much of that type of cutlery b/c he just gives the stuff to me.
I have a Z-Cut pointy tip. It's sharp, but even my 20-something daughter commented it seems a little flimsy. It is very lightweight.
I bought it with the intention of using it to replace my normal sandwich cutter, a 35+ year old utility knife from a Chicago Cutlery set. The Z-Cut sits in an odd size range, at least for me. It is longer than a pairing knife, but shorter than my utility knife, so it seems less convenient for pairing and a little short for cutting sandwiches.
It is sharp and easy to clean, though. I bought it at a St Nick's Knives brick and mortar store and they had a Dexter knife sheath ( https://www.dexterrussellcutlery.com/knife-guards/ ) that I bought for it which is handy for keeping safe it in the silverware drawer.
Yeah, that Magnacut Manix Lightweight will be a must have!
Just ordered a Shaman. Don't have a lot of Spyderco experience, this will be my first compression lock. LynchNW clip inbound as well. Looking forward to checking it out.
I want to like Spyderco, but their classic curved handles and deep finger grooves just don't work for me. The P'Kal and a few others are the exception.
