Triarc makes the 8.3. There’s the Maxim. I’m sure there’s others. What role do they fill, if the ideal velocities aren’t reached?

They teach people the practicality of a short .300BO gun.

Yup. Making fireballs. Also making everyone within 30 feet at the range shit their pants, and hate you

Edit. Disregard if you use with can. A lot of Triarc’s user base will run a short can

    What is "ideal velocity"?

They give enough velocity for most quality defensive loads to perform within the range that most people are actually using them for.

    They're better than a 9mm SBR.

    This ^^^.

Flashbang effect aside, The compromises necessary to get sub 10” 5.56 guns to run well are not worth the squeeze.

    Causing ringing in the ears.

Gettin ya Killt in da streets.

Really: all they’re good at is being short. Being short can be an advantage for obvious reasons, such as getting in and out of vehicles, and urban/indoor use, but the big advantage I see to them is to balance more nicely than longer barrels do with a can. But that would be more better with a .300, in my very limited can shooting experience: 5.56 doesn’t really get super quiet, where .300 can be “leave the ear pro in the gear bag” quiet with the right loads.
