    Hunting Down A Fishing License

Have been inside (mostly) for quite a while. Went out today, with a mask on,
to get a fishing license. Things out there are worse than I thought.

At the first place, a grocery store, the female clerk had not been trained
to sell licenses. Neither had the other clerk in the area. I wandered
around the store while my wife bought milk and spuds. We had been
out of both. Stocked up now.

The second place nicknames itself "Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms." Folks
must have decided they really needed all three. The line ran from the
cash register to the back of the store. I turned and went back out.
Don't like waiting and folks were basically one on top of the other in there.

Next place, a liquor store, had no line when I got there but two folks lined up behind me
as the clerk tried to make the license machine work. "My boss will
probably have it fixed in an hour," she said, as I went back out the door.

Finally went to a gas station. Bare of customers as I entered.
No wait for a license and the machine was cooperative.
I left with a license but no inclination to go fishing anymore.
My superstitious side figured I would fall in the creek
and then get chewed on by a bear. Went home and took a nap then
watched an outdoor show on TV.

I have bought licenses at all of these places before and never had such
a hard time making it work out. Bad luck or sign of the times?
    I can't tell.

In Ohio I think I can buy licenses online. I’ve not considered it before but might right now.

Ya know, I've been buying fishing licenses for well over 50 years, all around the US and several overseas countries.

I've only run into an enforcement officer about 2-3 times.

    Just sayin'

But I still get them. Online, when I can.

I've only been buying hunting licenses for about 22 years and fishing for 30 (basically since I reached the age where a license was required). I've only run into a game warden once myself.

As for where to purchase licenses, I have been buying mine online for several years now. Virginia even has an app that you can use to renew, manage, and display your license via your phone. I still print one because one of the places I regularly hunt doesn't have service with my carrier, so the phone stays in the vehicle.
