It is hard to get a decent optic alone, at your budget.

I went with a RWS Diana Model 34, and put decent glass on it.

I shot hundreds of squirrels, plus the occasional Skunk with .177 pellets of many varieties, with no complaints. If you do shoot skunks, shoot them a lot of times to make sure they are very dead.
