I started shooting IPSC in the very early 1980s. One of the first matches I shot at Fort Harmar had over 100 shooters. All 1911s in 45 ACP except for a couple of revolvers and a couple Hi Powers. The 1911 was king. In police circles it was K-Frame revolvers except for a few agencies that allowed 1911s.
