Bruce Gray used to do a modification, maybe still does, where the tail part of the safety is fixed in place. Only the vertical part on the back strap still functions as a safety.

I always thought that was interesting, and would like to try it, as I often have trouble with the web of my thumb pressing up against the tail thus engaging the safety.

My friend is a GM in Limited and says this is indeed a problem for him.

Needed or not, are you willing to put your and your family's entire financial future on the line by being the one guy who decided that a fundamental safety feature of a 108-year-old design was no longer necessary in today's litigious society? It doesn't matter whether it is or not, you can still easily lose everything by putting your head up and being the mole that gets whacked.
I can easily see this coming up in a lawsuit where a ND would be blamed on "removing an essential safety item for the design."

From recollection, USPSA allows a pinned grip safety in Open and Limited, but it must be working in Single Stack.
Likes pretty much everything in every caliber.

Like a recovering addict, JMB gave up his control in service to a Hi power as he understood it... in order to get a better grip on things.

May the Swartz be with you.

If I ever have a complete custom build done my goal is to have that part installed. I view the GS on 1911’s as superfluous.

As for it catching on I thought I remembered Novak’s not selling the part. If you wanted it you had to have them install it.

You can tune a 1911's grip safety so that it disengages with 1/3rd to 1/2 of it's travel.

This plus a memory bump makes it a non-issue unless you have boney cadaver hands.
Don’t blame me. I didn’t vote for that dumb bastard.

A 1911 with a manual safety and grip safety is one of the few guns I would feel safe carrying AIWB.
