Thread: The Four Horsemen of the .45

The Four Horsemen of the .45

For years I have been wanting to acquire what I considered the best of the .45 service pistols. I finally did it, though it took longer than I ever expected, and a few other shiny things got in the way.

That said, these are what I always considered the GREATS:

The 1911, the Glock 21, the 4506, and finally the HK USP.

Not too long ago, a fellow Idahoan, and all around great guy parted with his USP, which due to who it was made it even cooler.

    Anyways, behold the Four Horsemen.

While the 9mm may be acceptable for dropping bad guys these days, when it comes to an all around cartridge for people and animals, I will still take the old standby.

The newest, which I definitely need to spend more time afield with:

You need a West German Sig P220 for a Fab 5 of the Fo' Five....

I originally intended to start with a P220 back in the early 90s. Ended up with a G21, which was brand new on the market. Always liked the 220s, but after owning some other P series over the years, and the above guns, I just never got around to the 220. I never shot one that was not a tack driver, but I simply liked the G21 better.

The P220 is really a superb .45 though, no doubt about it.

    Doood!

The 4506 is all kinds of awesome! If polymer guns were never invented and I was forced to spend a career as a uniformed cop with a 4506, I would not feel undergunned in any way. Mine is a shooting machine.

Yeah, if I'd known about 3rd Gens back when the last police trade 4586s were going for <$300, I'd probably have one or two. A 4546 would catch my eye, but is unlikely to catch my wallet. http://smith-wessonforum.com/900287-post4.html I'm not a fan of the DA/SA control levers on the Beretta, much less the Smiths.

But lately, I've been focusing on platform consolidation. Picking the ones that work best for me and clearing out the rest. And in .45, that's the Germans, it turns out.
