I have been using RDS since they were first introduced - USPSA and Military. I understand they need maintenance, batteries, etc. I have Carbines and Pistols with RDS and I also have Carbines with LVPO. I am personally using LVPO now more for carbines.

Now I have multiple new shooters asking me for optics advice for their new carbines. They will not pay for the best RDS.

Since I know they will be focused on price and will not religiously change batteries, etc. - I am wondering if they may be best served with an optic with etched reticle. This might also help as many may have "dot bloom" issues with RDS.

One solution I have used is an old Simmons "Turkey Scope" LVPO with a 1.5x5 and a unique reticle in an Aero one piece mount on a "loaner" AR for new shooters.
